Meet Zach Weight
Zach Weight is a seasoned criminal lawyer with over 12 years of experience and a prosecutor dedicated to public safety, victim support, and due process.
Experienced Prosecutor
In April 2023, Zach was appointed Deputy State’s Attorney in Washington County. He handles some of the most serious violent crimes, including homicide, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and drug trafficking.
Special Prosecutor
In October 2025, Governor Phil Scott appointed Zach as Special Prosecutor for the newly created Chittenden County Accountability Court — an intensive, short-term pilot program targeting the county’s most habitual offenders. Over roughly four months, Zach resolved more than 700 cases, holding those offenders accountable for their criminal conduct.
Zach Weight is running for State’s Attorney because he’s genuinely passionate about Franklin County and the people who make it such a special place. He isn't the type of prosecutor to stay tucked away in an office; he’s the guy you’ll bump into at the Enosburg Dairy Festival, see at the Franklin County Field Days, or find catching up with neighbors at Kingman Fest. Between his stops at local farmers markets and his constant presence at community events, Zach is truly embedded in the fabric of the region. He believes that protecting a community starts with being a real part of it, and he’s committed to bringing that authentic, personable, and accessible leadership to the State's Attorney's office.
A Decade of Criminal Defense
Before entering public service, Zach spent approximately ten years as a criminal defense attorney, practicing in all fourteen of Vermont’s counties. Zach handled the full spectrum of criminal litigation — violent crimes, financial fraud, sex crimes, and constitutional advocacy.
That statewide experience gave him a rare, ground-level understanding of how different courts and counties operate across the state. It also gave him lasting insight into the systemic hurdles victims face — perspective that has made him a more effective and empathetic prosecutor.
Raised with Values
Zach grew up in a Navy family dedicated to public service. He earned his law degree from Vermont Law School in 2012. He currently lives in Milton with his husband, Will, and their dog, Brady.
